Abu Dhabi Adds AI and 3D Design to Expanded Freelancer License Portfolio

The latest changes include AI development and 3D model designing together with 28 other positions; in total, the list of freelance licenses available in Abu Dhabi has been enlarged to foster the growth of technology and innovation in the emirate. ADDED claimed that the amendment, which increased the total of the freelance activities to one hundred, was made.

That is, the new fields, such as, electronic and software designing, data classification and analysis services, oil and gas production software design and the online player support services etc. This move is of course designed to give more a chance to UAE citizens and residents with the aim of exposing them to the diversification of businesses that can be undertaken in the capital.

Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, the Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre, stressed the need to expand the business activities for freelancers and noted that this initiative corresponds to the state’s vision of the development of a sustainable and diverse economy. Over one thousand freelancer licenses were granted in 2023 only, which proves increasing demand for such kinds of employment.

Freelance licenses can be obtained by presenting experience of at least 12 months, in this field of work, or holder of professional or academic degrees. The license offers individuals the right to practice in a given practice without reporting to any employer and enter into contractual agreements with many companies in Abu Dhabi and work in free zone without having to acquire another license.

Such an expansion also keeps Abu Dhabi’s progressive trend in developing the AI capacities as a driver of the economy. In January 2021, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE launched AI and Advanced Technology Council working on the theory and the practical application of AI and advancement of the infrastructure and investment in the sphere. AI is also being applied to functions like climate change programs and the efficiency of what is to be the residency visa amnesty campaign.

The freelancer license was first launched in Abu Dhabi in 2020 for 48 business activities. It has also over the time expanded roles to meet market demands that include computer systems and software designer, with the view of acting as a technology center in the region.
