Kris Marszalek, co-founder and chief executive of Crypto.com, has acquired the AI.com domain for approximately $70 million, paid entirely in cryptocurrency, in what is being described as the largest publicly disclosed domain name sale to date.

According to the Financial Times, Marszalek plans to unveil the new AI.com platform during a Super Bowl commercial this weekend, positioning the project as a new entrant in the rapidly expanding consumer artificial intelligence market.

Record-Breaking Domain Purchase

The reported $70 million transaction was confirmed by domain broker Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.com, who declined to disclose the seller’s identity. The deal was settled fully in digital assets, underscoring the growing role of cryptocurrency in high-value transactions.

Marszalek said he completed the purchase of AI.com in April and has since assembled a dedicated team to develop the platform.

“I purchased ai.com in April. Since that time, we created a team that has been steadily building. There are always twists and turns, but I’m excited with our first launch this Sunday during the Super Bowl,” Marszalek wrote on X.

He described the acquisition as a long-term investment, citing his belief that artificial intelligence will be one of the most influential technological shifts over the next 10 to 20 years.

Marszalek also revealed that he has already received what he called “an absolutely insane amount of money” in offers to sell the domain, but said he intends to retain it to build a business and brand around the name.

Super Bowl Launch for Consumer AI Agent

The AI.com platform is expected to debut as a personal AI agent designed to help users send messages, access applications, and trade stocks. Marszalek said the service will focus on simplicity and accessibility, particularly for non-technical users.

He noted that the product will offer functionality similar to recently popular AI agents emerging from Silicon Valley, but with a streamlined setup aimed at mainstream consumers.

Marszalek has positioned the domain acquisition as part of a broader branding strategy, arguing that ownership of a high-profile, category-defining domain helps avoid commoditisation in an increasingly crowded AI landscape.

Expanding Beyond Crypto

Marszalek launched Crypto.com in 2016, and says the company generates around $1.5 billion in annual revenue. The firm is known for its aggressive marketing strategy, including a $700 million naming-rights deal for a major sports arena in Los Angeles, as well as partnerships with Trump Media & Technology Group.

The AI.com project marks a significant expansion beyond Crypto.com’s core digital asset business, signaling Marszalek’s ambition to establish a consumer-facing presence in artificial intelligence as the sector continues to accelerate.
