Amid allowing the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) in its macroeconomic processes, the Dubai Department of Economy & Tourism (DET) has named Dr. Marwan Alzarouni as its new CEO & MD – AI. This appointment remains in tandem with Dubai’s long-term vision to incorporate sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies into its framework of administration.
This project is among undertaking the directions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai & Chairman of The Executive Council for Dubai, he spearheads. In May this year, Sheikh Hamdan issued the requirement that every ministry, department, and agency in Dubai must have at least 22 chief AI officers to be appointed as the Government is keen to become a pioneer in AI management and adoption.
In this interaction, Dr. Alzarouni explained how AI discussed in this paper can enhance the wellbeing of the residents of Dubai as well as the guests. He said, “We are committed to focusing on the welfare and satisfaction of the people who live in and visitors to Dubai through our AI endeavours; through the use of aluminium, we are making the city smarter, eco-friendly as well as enjoyable.
The wider approach which is called Dubai’s ‘Smart Dubai: the city of the future blueprint,’ also includes plans for advanced AI application across multiple aspects of administration. This involves the establishment of AI and Web3 incubators, the clearing of space for data centers, new commercial spaces, and the issuance of new licenses for AI companies.
International experiences indicate the emergence of the position of the Chief AI Officer, responsible for artificial intelligence management at the organization level. This is anchored on the appointment of new chief AI officers who will supervise specialized AI and other advanced technologies to enhance performance in government across the country. These roles are main in the course of executing the envisioning of future governance in Dubai as described in the AI framework and the various lofty objectives set out in AI.
The assessment and selection process of these strategic posts have been the sole responsibility of the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence that is affiliated to the Dubai Future Foundation. This will go a long way to improve Dubai’s knowledge and experience in Artificial Intelligence and dwell on its quest to be at the forefront of every emerging technology solution company in the world.
This is according to the first implementation step within the AI blueprint, which will see the inception of AI Week in learners institutions aimed at promoting innovation and adoption of technology among learners.
