Microsoft and G42 Launch Responsible AI Foundation in Abu Dhabi

G42 from Abu Dhabi together with Microsoft introduced the Responsible AI Foundation which marks the first such initiative produced in the Middle East to advance ethical and inclusive AI practices. The foundation operates through research support from Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) to advance responsible AI governance with focus on fairness in addition to transparency.

A Global Vision for Ethical AI
The initiative targets to maintain AI so it serves all people across every geographical region including Western countries. Through its subsidiary Inception G42 will execute the foundation’s programs by directing research efforts toward developing responsible AI systems with proper governance structures.

Key Focus Areas
The Responsible AI Foundation will focus its initiatives into two essential areas.

The Responsible AI Research Department aims to develop AI safety protocols and eliminate bias while creating explanation tools while working with global institutions to establish new standards of fairness and transparency and accountability.
The Responsible AI Implementation and Governance program will create flexible ethical guidelines together with risk assessment systems and external ethics review boards that fit specific cultural needs to guarantee the proper use of AI technology.
Dr. Andrew Jackson from G42 as their Group Responsible AI Officer presented the foundation as an initiative that brings ethical AI principles to concrete implementation frameworks for the future.

Microsoft Expands AI for Good Lab to Abu Dhabi
Besides launching the Responsible AI Foundation Microsoft made plans to expand its AI for Good Lab into Abu Dhabi. The regional hub based out of Abu Dhabi serves as a collaboration facility between government entities along with NGOs to deploy AI solutions tackling social issues most heavily affecting the Middle Eastern nations and Global Southern areas. The research personnel at the Abu Dhabi hub will start their work during March 2025.

Microsoft Vice President and Chief Responsible AI Officer Natasha Crampton stressed the need for AI to deliver value to communities throughout the world beyond Western societies.
