The UAE Cabinet approved the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy today with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai as the chair. Giving force to this ai policy are the Ministry of Advanced Industry for Science and Technology and the Ministry of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.
Apart from this, the country’s Minister of State for AI, Omar Sultan Al Olama noted that the UAE is involved in determining the AI policies and regulations on a global level. Its influence has grown in the regulation of artificial intelligence worldwide, he said, noting that the policy is meant to be helpful in having technologies work to peoples’ benefit.
The policy is built on six core principles: progress, collaboration, society, morality, stewardship, and safety. It shows how the UAE is ensuring the promotion of AI for ethical, social and environmental values. Further, on the socio-economic perspective, their is a vision of improving economic diversification and technological advancement through AI technologies.
Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, pointed out that the policy will assist the UAE in enhancing its status as a reliable country that can develop AI. It will help local enterprises and research institutions conduct international cooperation in the organization, so as to integrate AI into the framework of international responsible and sustainable use.
Major goals among them are boosting its transparency and accountability in relation to AI technologies and enhancing its collaboration with international partners to maintain security in AI progress. The UAE’s AI policy is a systematic approach towards advancing the nation in AI governance and creating a global alliance on efficient consumption of AI technology.
