UAE President Participates in G7 Summit on AI and Energy in Italy

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi invited UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to a virtual G7 Summit in Italy continue to discuss artificial intelligence (AI) and energy. Among them was a session titled “Energy and Artificial Intelligence / Africa and the Mediterranean Region,” which she opened by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In his speech, Sheikh Mohamed thanked Prime Minister Melani for the invitation and pointed out that, there are so many challenges that the Middle East& Africa region is facing today especially in the energy sector. He stressed that now people should act together and cooperatively to bring changes in societies, using new approaches, such as AI, for creating environmentally friendly energy.

The main emphasis of Sheikh Mohamed is the political determination of the UAE in fostering an exemplary integrated AI system from diverse programs, legislation, and initiatives to strategic partnerships. From this effort, the transition towards AI for energy sustainability, the maintenance of energy security, and the advancement of sustainable economic and sociopolitical development will be sought. He pointed out that UAE being equally aligned and transitioning has presented a good example for the standards of international cooperation.

He went on to urge that attending the meeting should lead to conscientious handling of the new technologies to avoid widening developmental divides or even the world becoming polarized into two between information technology and the rest of the world, but instead converting information technology into an instrument for development, security, and welfare.

His final comments were expressed with appreciation to Prime Minister Melani and the people. This was succeeded by a video presentation on the innovation and progress of of UAE on the incorporation of artificial Intelligence and sustainable energy. This fed inputs from the UAE authorities such as Omar Sultan Al Olama who is the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications and Faisal Al Bannai, a close advisor for the President of the UAE on the Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs.

The session also involved other important personalities including the Pope Francis, The President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and more. Earlier, there was a welcome by the Prime Minister Meloni when arriving at the summit venue, recognizing with a photograph.
