UAE and Bermuda Collaborate on Government Development and Modernization

This paper focuses on UAE and Bermuda MOU that analyzes the cooperation between two regions in government advancement and transformations. This treaty that was signed at the UN HLPF on Sustainable Development extends the relations with this country to a new level of cooperation in economic, environmental and social fields based on the sharing of best practices and lessons learned.

The MoU identifies areas of collaboration in the sharing of information on activities aimed at enhancing government’s service delivery and policies. The MOU signed between UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Bermuda’s Ministry of Economy and Labour was to explore the area of cooperation in human capacity building to foster strategy development to adequately train the employees in the public service sector in technologies and leadership. This initiative sketches the future-preparedness and dynamism in governance nature of the two nations.

Abdullah Nasser Lootah, the Assistant Minister for Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, and current Chairman to the National Committee for the SDGs of the UAE, signed the MoU on behalf of the country. He pointed out the UAE’s position in the frontline in the enhancement of human capital and the encouragement of the creation of innovation in the public sector. Lootah said, “The UAE government has adopted a best practice framework on human capacity development and innovation in the public sector and as a result policies have improved while services have become smarter and benefits to our society and economy measurable. ” He mentioned concepts like world’s first government accelerators to be launched and One Million Arab Coders as the innovative strategies that has been set by the UAE.

Minister of Economic Development Jason Hayward who was speaking on behalf of Bermuda stressed that the relations between Bermuda and the UAE are friendly and continually developing. He said that Bermuda’s involvement in the Government Experience Exchange Programme proves the growing and progressive relationship between Bermuda and the UAE and has contributed positively towards the understanding of the benefits affiliated to such agreement.

The UAE participates in bilateral meetings with other countries and governments, UN programs and other international organizations during the meeting of the UN HLPF on Sustainable Development held by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations. Such interactions are meant to advance achievement of the sustainable development objectives with regard to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
