In a recent interview, British actor Faraz Ayub shared his reflections on his participation in the recently concluded Muslim International Film Festival (MIFF) in London.
He described his experience as overwhelmingly positive and expressed his enthusiasm for having his film included in the festival’s lineup. Following the screening of “Sky Peals,” the audience engaged actively and posed questions about his character’s development. They were also keen to learn more about the acting techniques employed and the overall filming process.
Faraz deeply appreciated the intimate setting and the encouraging feedback. Interestingly enough, the MIFF managed to attract considerable media attention, including notable coverage by the BBC and Indy Urdu, a Pakistani media outlet even during its almost inaugural stage. As the conversation transitioned to oportunities given to Muslim actors, Faraz was quick to point out the challenges faced by Muslim actors. However, he believes that this is the case such that the level of representation is still in its early stages. Therefore, he is hopeful for more and continued press awareness. He also noted the MIFF’s role in advocating for greater recognition of Muslim talents.
In closing, Faraz Ayub advised aspiring Muslim actors to show unwavering dedication to the craft by attending drama classes for continuous learning. Seeking mentorship helps in building character, versatility, and acting precision. Most importantly, he emphasized the importance of remaining true to oneself while striving for excellence in the industry.
