Godzilla Minus One: Monochromatic Terrors Coming to Netflix in August

Toho studio’s Oscar-winning success story Godzilla Minus One is to hit the streaming giant Netflix with a new version surrounded in black and white to be known as Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color this August. This declaration comes after the film had recorded high sales at the box office and is even being enjoyed by a lot on devices like Netflix.

The black and white version of the movie was showcased for a limited number of weeks during the summer in the US and fans who never got a chance to watch it before the theaters were looking forward to this version. Netflix later came out to confirm the news which brightened the art lovers especially the fans of the legendary monster series.

In an interview with Moviehole, director, writer and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamakazi said he was quite excited for this cut of the film. In the press release, Yamakazi described how the colorist, to get such black and white picture, had to go through very detailed procedures and it was not a simple process. This, he stressed out, brought Godzilla closer to a document of actuality that was missing from the monotone color scheme. ‘Even if we have a look at Godzilla Minus One many times on video we got the impression that something different emerged here, and indeed it is quite frightening! Yamazaki had a stupendous point here. He focused on the scene when Godzilla shows up during the night and his words were, ‘They should have ended the movie right here, the scene is so terrifying it made my knees shake. ’

Thus the release of Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color can be a pleasure for the viewers that enjoyed the first movie and for the new viewers that will watch this colorless version first. The black-and-white approach creates an aphorism that makes a leap to Ishiro Honda’s more classic 1954, creating a sort of tribute to the franchise’s origins.

The original Godzilla Minus One can be watched on Netflix now while Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color will be up from August 1. This release offers to present the viewers with a brand new point of view at the legendary monster and become one of the most important viewer appeals to the fans of the genres and Godzilla in particular.
