Leave the World Behind’ Tops All Netflix Viewing for Second Half of 2023 With 121 Million Views, ‘One Piece’ Leads TV With 71.6 Million Views

Said to be a dystopian thriller, “Leave the World Behind” was the most viewed film as well as the most viewed title in general on Netflix from across the world in the second half of the year 2023, while “One Piece” –inspired anime-syndicated live action series dominated the Television side.

The data comes from Netflix’s second edition of “What We Watched: The sample survey Self-Created Netflix Engagement Report, which covers 99% of the show watched on Netflix from the period July-December, 2023. Customers in various parts bought about 90 billion hours worth of Netflix in the last six months of 2023 and 93 billion in the initial six months of the year.

Netflix does not report results quarterly but the update the viewers can deem relevant comes once a year; the first one was dumped in December covering the first half of 2023. In the second report that came out on Thursday, the company has included the runtime and views (total hours watched over the TV shows divided by the runtime) and has also split films and TV shows and align with their weekly Top 10 or Most Popular lists.

The latest Netflix original series ‘Leave the World Behind’ is the No. This hottest movie of all time thus far brought out the likes of 121 Million hitches in less than 22 days from December 8, 2023. Out of all of them, “One Piece” garnered nearly 72 million views and contributed to a more than double of viewership in Netflix’s anime film and series. The selection of licensed titles also remained loved by the viewers on Netflix. Nine world hit TV series/brands and their views as of second half of 2023 were, Suits, 144 mn, views, nine seasons, Young Sheldon, 88 mn, Grey’s Anatomy 51mn, Gossip Girl 49mn, Gilmore Girls 45 mn.

Three of Netflix biggest hits of all time are Wednesday, Red Notice and Squid Game and the two former again attracted the large viewership days after the series’ premiere. For full-year 2023 “Wednesday” racked 98 million total views “Red Notice” 62 million and “Squid Game” 25 million.

The first three parts of Netflix’s “Lupin” had close to 100 million watches in the second half of 2023, while the eight seasons of the children-targeting “CoComelon” household had almost 200 million views. Still, when adding all the seasons together, the audience is even bigger– ‘The Witcher’ had 76 million views, followed by ‘Virgin River’ with 69 million, ‘The Crown’ being right behind with 50 million, ‘Sweet Magnolias’ with 35 million, ‘Top Boy’ with 26 million, ‘Heartstopper’ with 24 million, ‘Sintonia’ with 20 million and ‘

People around the world are watching nearly one-third of all content on Netflix in non-English languages. The largest percentage of viewing outside English was also obtained from Korean (9% of viewing), Spanish (7%) and Japanese (5%) language stories. Algorithms that have gained a high popularity with the viewers are “Dear Child” with 53 million views from Germany, “Forgotten Love” with 43 million from Poland, “Pact of Silence” with 21 million from Mexico, “Mask Girl” with 19 million from Korea, “Yu Yu Hakusho” with 17 million from Japan, “Berlin” with 11 million from Spain, and “The Railway Men”
