‘Twisters’ Reaches $100 Million Milestone Domestically in Just Five Days

Twisters, from Universal, has hit the first major domestic box office mark days after it delighted movie fans with the best opening-wknd gross for any disaster film. Written and directed by Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung, the movie was able to surpass the $100 million in domestic gross thanks to the delight of $12 million during the first Discount Tuesday. The movie’s combined domestic total at this point is around 102 million dollars that has grossed in merely five days of its release.

“Twisters” opened to $81 million in its first weekend, marking the third-biggest three-day debut of the year, behind only “Dune: The other proposed sequels were identified as “Toy Story II” ($82million), “Finding Nemo II,” ($82million), “Cars II” ($108million), “Monsters Inc. II” ($112 million), “Inside Out II” ($154 million). But it is poised to drop a rank this weekend because of “Deadpool & Wolverine” that is predicted to open in record high sales. Like these movies the name “Twisters” is also a sequel; however, not a sequel to the 2000 movie Twister; it is a movie of the same name made in the nineties which was a blockbuster earning over $240 million domestically and $493 million internationally.

One major advantage that can be said about Twisters is the presence of the leading man, Glen Powell, whose career has lately risen to its peak. Powell recently starred in “Top Gun: Maverick,” and featured in the hit romantic comedy “Anyone But You” and the romantic thriller “Hit Man. ” “Twisters” sees him act besides Daisy Edgar-Jones of “Normal People” and of the thriller “Where the Crawdads Sing,” right before it raked in almost $150 million at the worldwide box office.

Furthermore, “Twisters” is also reporting good critical reception, and in fact has a “fresh” figure of 77% on the Rotten Tomatoes. Even more significantly, on the same website, it holds 92% of the approval rating from the audience, as well as A- CinemaScore which represents the first-day viewings’ appreciation. Collider’s Jeff Ewing also noted that High Lives is full of strong visuals, great scenes, and sheer scale and offered superb character work from an incredible cast.
