Sky gazers in the UAE are in for a treat this August as the Perseids Meteor Shower event one of the biggest meteor shower of the year takes place. The meteor shower is to last this period with roughly fifty to a hundred shooting stars per hour, with the peak viewing on the night of Monday, August 12, 2024.
The Perseids Meteor Shower occurs as the Earth moves through the trail left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle on its orbit of the solar system, the next time the comet came close to the Earth was 1992. For best results, the advice given is to travel to the desert since the beams have to overcome light pollution from cities.
The Dubai Astronomy Group will set up an event with patient apparatus furthermore fine arts. For those in Sharjah, the Mleiha Archaeological Centre will have a stargazing session from 7 pm to 12 am and other activities, food and drinks.
