The Wireless Festival in Abu Dhabi has found itself at the centre of controversy today with Playboi Carti – the Atlanta rapper who was booked to headline the November 23rd show at Etihad Park – dropping out at the last minute.
Event promoters Live Nation posted the news on Instagram stating that the concert had been canceled due to Carti’s unsavory and sudden change of heart to perform at the event. In the same statement expressing their regret they said, ‘we also feel the frustration and disappointment, as we have pissed our best effort to ensure that everyone had the time of their lives’.
The Show Will Go On
Nevertheless, Wireless Abu Dhabi assures people of a worthy show acting as part of the festival. Leading the event will be UK rapper 21 Savage, and a relatively new artist, Yeat whose song Money So Big recently went viral. As the young and global music artists take the stage, this year’s American entertainment includes the rap artists A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie from America and Saweetie from America to give fans music’s finest.
For the cancelled shows, ticket holders will be given a 30% refund on tickets that will be processed immediately and take about five to ten working days.
A History of Changes
Playboi Carti’s dropout happened after he was confirmed this month as a replacement headliner for the festival following the cancellation of an initially booked SZA. Though missing for the second year in row, the differences in the lineup should ensure a high tempo in Wireless Abu Dhabi.
This kind of event is a confirmation of the challenges associated with booking the international events but Live Nation has demonstrated the firm’s enthusiasm for the entertainment industry in the UAE.
