World Green Economy Summit 10 has ended with positive outcomes that can lead to the COP29 in Azerbaijan this year. Dubai hosted the event attracting leaders of the governments, ministers and other stakeholders focused on the green economy agenda. Hosted by DEWA, under the patronage of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and in cooperation with the WGEO, the event discussed the subjects of sustainability, climate change, and green energy.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of WGEO, stressed that the UAE is an active member in the promotion of the green economy. He expressed his gratitude to UAE President, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Dubai Ruler, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for their support for sustainability efforts. Al Tayer showcased the country’s significant improvement in achieving economic growth while being an active part of the global climate change solution.
The UAE declared strategic objectives for tripling renewable power capacity and aiming for 19.8 GW of clean power by 2030 and boosted H2 production as an element of the UAE Net-Zero 2050 framework. There was representation from ministers and industry specialists on clean energy and how key sectors such as energy, infrastructure and housing are being shifted towards cleaner sources of power.
The summit also discussed the results of COP28 and defined the process of preparation for COP29, which strengthen the role of global cooperation in implementing the sustainable development goals.
