Eid Al Fitr 2025: Expected Dates and Duration of Public Holidays

Foreseeing the next year public holidays is very crucial as we near the end of yet another year. After the New Year occasions in 2025, the next significant UAE public holiday is Eid Al Fitr.

Dealing with the official holidays, there shall be at least three off days for Eid Al Fitr; if Ramadan will last for 30 days, then there shall be / another off day. After the first nine-day weekend, which was held in 2024, people continue to eagerly expect such a long-awaited weekend next year.

UAE holidays are Quite a number fall on lunar calendar since the nation’s religious calendar follows the Islamic Hijri calendar, which is set by the moon-sighting committee. Astronomers stated that the crescent of Ramadan will appear on the night of Friday-Saturday July 27 while Ramadan begins on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Therefore, given this prediction one would be in a position to forecast the onset of Eid Al Fitr break. If Ramadan was a 29-day month then the Eid Al Fitr holiday would start on the first day of Shawwal which is assumed to be wednesday, March 30. This would then give us a Sunday to Tuesday break in addition to the typical weekends.

Therefore, if Ramadan lasts up to 30 days, the Eid Al Fitr break would commence on the last day of Ramadan, thus a holiday from Monday to Wednesday. The following year, 2024, witnessed the declaration of public holidays from Ramadan twenty nine to Shawwal three of the government of United Arab Emirates leading to a longer holiday.

Thus, the public holiday will start from Ramadan 30 if the holy fasting month spans 30 days, providing one day less than in 2024 for the corresponding year. Referring to moon sightings, the precise dates for the events will be fixed prior to the celebrations, taking into account the Islamic calendar date.

This was followed with a new resolution when the list of public holidays for next year was released, it stated that a new resolution was reached that from 2025 if a public holiday lies on a weekend it is shifted to a weekday. Nevertheless, this decision does not apply to Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha.
