Is Christmas Day a Public Holiday in Dubai?

As Christmas Eve approaches, many would like to know whether December 25 is a public holiday in Dubai? Although one can see and decorations all over the city and even in some offices the Christmas is not celebrated as public or private holiday in the UAE.

Because Islam is the official religion in the UAE, most of the public holidays are religious, including Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. Actually, regarding the fact that Christmas is a Christian celebration, the employers do not have to give their staff the day off.

However, some of the companies may consider offering its employees the day off because it is Christmas day and is being observed on Wednesday this year. If you wish to get out of work for Friday then it is recommended that you consult with your employer or otherwise use annual leave. For example, Boxing Day, on December 26, is also considered a business day; therefore, workers have to apply for leave if they want to continue festivity.

First time visitors of Christmas in Dubai are able to enjoy a very festive season but with a twist given its tropical climate. People can shop for Christmas goodies, indulge in Christmas brunches and experience snow related activities if they are in Vancouver during the festival.
