Dhul-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, began with the crescent moon which the UAE has declared will lead to Eid Al Adha being celebrated in the last week of July 2025. Dhul-Hijjah begins in the Islamic year 1446, according to a statement from the Presidential Court on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Arafat Day will take place on Thursday, June 5 (Dhul-Hijjah 9) and Eid Al Adha will start the following day, Friday, June 6 (Dhul-Hijjah 10) and run through Sunday, June 8 (Dhul-Hijjah 10 to 12).
Officials extended their warmest congratulations and best wishes to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, their fellow Supreme Council Members and all Rulers of the Emirates. May the UAE and the Islamic world experience joy, peace and prosperity because of this blessed occasion.”
Eid Al Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, plays a big role in Islamic celebrations. The event honors the sacrifice Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) made when he was ready to obey Allah. In most places, Muslims observe Eid Al-Adha by praying, sharing their blessings with those who have less, coming together with family and slaughtering animals.
The confirmation of these dates has led residents countrywide to get ready for the holiday’s special prayers, meals and community events. Public holidays around Eid will make Mondays and Tuesdays holidays for both public and private sector employees.
The decision by the UAE is the same as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, whose sightings of the moon confirmed the same dates.
