Qatar Aims to Lead in Global AI Race

Doha, Qatar: To transform itself into a knowledge-based economy, Qatar is aiming to be at the nascent phase of this new-cycle technological advancement namely, Artificial Intelligence (AI). Such view was established during the ‘Lead the Era of AI’ event that was co-chaired by Microsoft Qatar and Ministry of Communications Information Technology (MCIT).

Department of Information Technology Affairs at MCIT official, Sami Al Shammari noted Qatar desire to be an active player rather than a passive actor in the global AI future. Skewshed Assistant: He emphasized the relevance of partnership with such giants as Microsoft that contributed in provision of profound cloud solutions that improved cybersecurity measures and optimized public services with the help of AI.

Next, Al Shammari discussed the National AI Strategy and proposed priorities with an emphasis on education, data, job opportunities, business, innovation, and values. A good example, he described the strategy as a pledge to the future where artificial intelligence permeates every facet of existence, economy, and leadership.

Lana Khalaf, General Manager, Microsoft Qatar, spoke more about the impact of AI on the economy and the customer, especially how it is changing the ways of interacting with customers. inclusive of artificial intelligence with an estimated contribution of 8. 2% to the GDP and impact on other sectors.

The event awarded the excellence and AI usage in business transformation solutions to a list of firms such as the TASMU Programme of MCIT, Qatar Airways, Ashghal, Kahramaa, Hayya, Invest Qatar among others under what was known as the ‘AI Innovation Awards’.

Microsoft’s data center, which has been present in Qatar for two years, shows growth of demand from various sectors in the country as a useful result of the AI era. With continuous developments in AI on the rise and the backing of strategic collaborations, Qatar plans for its self to be at the forefront of global AI adoption for development and prosperity in the near future.

As Qatar remains committed to development in the technologies, partnerships with leaders and initiatives in developing Artificial Intelligence in everyday life are set to usher the nation into realizing its Digital Agenda 2030, that is, a smarter and more technologically advanced nation.
