A children’s Polish book of fantasy is shown to have wowed the global viewership after being transpired on Netflix. The very children’s film, ‘Kleks Academy’ (Akademia Pana Kleksa) mesmerized the viewers when based on a story written by Jan Brzechwa in 1946. When launched in English on the platform, at one point the film received 3. 7 million views in a week being the third non-English movie in the global rating.
The plot of the show is built around the search of the missing father by a little girl which results in her joining the colorful magic school under the guidance of the odd character, Ambroży Kleks.
The movie features Tomasz Kot, an actor famous for the ‘Cold War’ recently ended Oscar-wining film; it debuted in the Polish theatres earlier this year and attracted more than three million viewers. This was followed by its airing on the Polish Netflix in May which opened the way for its airing in English, which quickly gained following across the globe.
The audience popularity of ”Kleks Academy” can be compared with another Polish picture “Spadek” (”Inheritance”), which rejoiced the Polish cinematographic fans with such a film during the definite period of time and got even 10,5 millions of views; thus, Poland is becoming more and more significant in the world cinematographic space.
Director Maciej Kawulski affirmed his intentions for a sequel which would be based on the second book of Brzechwa’s series with the release date set for January 2025. Speaking on the sequel, Kawulski expressed optimism: “Where the first part of the movie might have fired the spark of imagination of the children, the second part in some ways will definitely shine brighter and in some other ways will open new dimensions that are even unimaginable by an adult mind. ”
Netflix which operates its offices in Warsaw since 2022 is still raising Polish productions to the international stratosphere. Forgotten Love (Znachor), based on the adaptation of yet another Polish literary work of the same title released the previous year, was also among the platform’s top 10 most-watched films in languages other than English for eight weeks and has garnered most of the attention from the audience with close to 40 million views.
