Abu Dhabi Crowned Safest City Globally, UAE Cities Lead in Livability Rankings

Extent of safety: Recently the city of Abu Dhabi has emerged to be the safest city globally according to the 2024 Global Liveability index done by the economist intelligent unit. The UAE capital, together with Dubai remains among the most liveable city in the Middle East and Africa, with marked progress in the sphere of healthcare and education.

When comparing the results achieved worldwide, it was determined that the safest city in the world is Abu Dhabi, the Safety Index of which amounts to 88. 2 points. Further, on the Crime Index the city achieved the minimum – 11,8 points that proves the concept of security and well-being of the city. Dubai also ranked right behind it and came to the fifth place in cities with the lowest crime rates thus outlining the UAE as a safe country of destination.

It also stress the position of Dubai in the liveability index and its improvement by ranking the city at the second position in Middle East and Africa region. The improvement in the areas of healthcare and education was also highlighted, which can speak about the desire to develop the quality of living for the cities’ inhabitants.

Data obtained from the Dubai Health Authority in April showed that currently in the emirate of Dubai 5020 licensed functioning healthcare facilities are available with 13370 licensed doctors. On the other hand, some of the facts about the emirate of Abu Dhabi are that the healthcare facilities in the area total to 3,323, and these comprise of 67 hospitals, 1,136 health centers, and 1,068 pharmacies. The same has a population of 12,922 licensed doctors by December 2022.

Abu Dhabi is the most represented with 459 total schools, meeting all levels of educational requirements and boosting the cities’ high liveability scores; Dubai has 220 private schools as well.

On the same note, the report also notes that of the 10 leading cities in the rank, 8 of them are in the gulf countries; Kuwait City, Doha and Bahrain follow the duo of Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively. The countries in the GCC still remain to be the most popular area for business development alongside with attracting large-scale investments and highly-qualified workforce.

Global Liveability Index ranks 173 cities around the world regarding stability, health, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. The latest rankings still leave no doubt of the UAE’s constant strive to provide people with safe and prosperous urban spaces.
