The Olympic Games
Arshad Nadeem claimed the gold today at Paris 2024 Olympics to clinch the men’s javelin final defeating the former record of setting a new Olympic record by launching his javelin at a distance of 92. 97 meters. This win is Pakistan’s first Olympic individual title and the nation’s first athletics medal having to wait three decades for Olympic triumph.
The last once again witnessed a fierce battle between Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra of India who was the defending champion this time secured a silver position with a throw of 89. 45m. Grenada’s Anderson Peters took the bronze after throwing the javelin for 88. 54m.
Nadeem’s memorable performance also erased the old Olympic record holders of 90. 57m which was held by an athlete of Norway, Andreas Thorkildsen during the Beijing Olympics in the year 2008. His throw now occupies the position of number six in the list of javelin throw as well as occupying the place of the world best for year 2024.
The win has been celebrated across the country; The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has congratulated Nadeem for putting up such a great display to proudly represent Pakistan. It also gave a renewed flavour to the traditional Pakistan-India sports rivalry and Nadeem, more so Chopra, kept raising new benchmarks in the sport of athletics.
