The UAE Paralympic team was very active in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where Maryam Al-Zeyoudi and Mohamed Khamis both came fourth in their individual categories.
Maryam Al-Zeyoudi participated in the women’s shot put F40 final which she excelled in a greatly manner. Her throw of 8. 62 meters was even a new record for her, with a difference of only couple of centimeters to a bronze. Tunisia’s Raja Jebali took the bronze while The Netherlands’ Lara Baars walked away with gold setting a record for Paralympic Games. Al-Zeyoudi’s exceptional effort proved that she has the capability and is talented enough to compete in world tournament.
In the 88 kg weightlifting event, veteran in weightlifting Mohamed Khamis also showed good performance in the event. He lifted 210 but finished just out of the podium, the bronze medal went to Ukraine’s Yury with 214 kg. In as much as Khamis did not win a medal, there was no shortage of spirits that make a competitor forces to contend with.
Paralympic Games were phenomenal; the strength and determination seen in UAE Paralympic team’s, during Paris especially, remains imprinted in one’s mind.
