Recently the UAE has been ranked as one of the world’s most advanced economies in cybersecurity and ranked in the tier one level in Global Cybersecurity Index 2024. This index is launched by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and measure the countries according to their intactness to protect the cyberspace. Thus, the UAE has managed to take one of the leading positions among 46 countries, including other countries of the Gulf region and the leading world powers, including the USA, Great Britain, and Germany, owing to active actions to counter existing cyber threats.
Comprehensive Cybersecurity Approach
The Global Cybersecurity Index assessed 194 countries on five critical pillars: population and labour force, education, legal system, electronics, communication and internet technologies, organizational management and development and international relations. All the indicators were impressive and the UAE was placed in the first tier, which is given to countries who themselves set the standard for cybersecurity around the world.
In the context of escalating rates of cyberattacks, the nature of which is changing, the report continued that despite the growth of international cybersecurity activity, drawbacks still exist. Such attacks are ransomware attacks on government services, breaches in core industry industries, and violations of privacy.
UAE’s Cybersecurity Vision
Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, head of the UAE Cybersecurity Council noted this to the country’s established digital transformation agenda. The Cybersecurity Council was formed in 2020 and has been involved in formulation of policies that has strengthened the defense of the country’s online space. Al Kuwaiti not only stressed on the nations alertness, Moreover, it disclosed that in the first quarter of the year 2024, the nation successfully prevented 71 million cyber threats while 50000 cyber threats attack the UAE daily.
This accreditiation further enhances the UAE’s strategic position as the world’s technological center and a cybersecurity powerhouse.
