Etihad Museum Launches Grant Programme for Research on UAE Heritage and Identity

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has expanded a new scheme to give researchers, thinkers, writers, artists and anyone interested to make more of Emirati’s history, culture and identity the chance to support historical research of the Etihad Museum. This initiative is dedicated to inviting UAE-based academics, historians and artists to provide proposals that fit the UAE’s history and align with the organisation’s role in preserving the local history and culture as Dubai Culture. The programme again highlights Dubai Culture’s commitment to exploring and developing scholarship in the field of museums as well as increasing awareness of Emiriati cultural identity internationally.

A part of the Etihad Museum Cultural Season, this grant scheme will focus on highlighting the Etihad Museum’s collections which includes such archives, other tinea and photography from the formation of the UAE and specifically within the time period of 1968 to 1974. Proposals are to complement stories told at the Etihad Museum, enhancing its potential as the educational platform for national history. The Museums and Heritage Sector Chief Executive Muna Faisal Al Gurg underlined the significance of this plan in the process of changing Dubai’s museums into centers that enhance knowledge and educational academic findings about the Emirati identity and her culture.

Submissions for the program are accepted until December 20 only, the selected candidates shall go for an assessment by specialists and acceptability of the proposed ideas with reference to the thematic contexts of Etihad Museum as well as popularity among the potential target audience. Submissions must introduce new perspectives to the study of Emirati past, with emphasis placed on the characterization of data and development of projects. Besides strengthening the expertise in the field of research, this grant programme also has the mission to engage the potential of museum spaces in the context of Dubai and, thus, the UAE as a whole, to set up contemporary and engaging experiences closely connected to the national and local context.

In doing so, the Etihad Museum aims to provide the public with more information and inspiring them to grow closer to the UAE through researching more about the country’s historical path as a part of making the national story as dynamic, enriched and engaging for everyone, both visitors and residents of the country, as possible.
