Dubai Implements Truck Ban on Key Roads Starting January 1, 2025

Dubai authorities have announced a new truck ban along Emirates Road, between Al Awir Street and Sharjah, during evening peak hours from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This has been in the RTA and Dubai Police drive to reduce traffic jam and improve on the safety of roads starting from January 1, 2025.

Expanding Truck Movement Bans

The truck ban is an extension of previous attempts, with a similar plan starting in 2024 for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The proposed shift’s purpose is to give priority to the light vehicles during rush hour since this measure should minimize the number of collisions between large vehicles and light vehicles, consequently improving the daily traffic experience. Also, many important roads in Dubai including Al Ittihad Street and Meydan Street allow no big rig traffic at all during rush hour or any time of day.

Due to such Malise the emirate of Dubai has been establishing the truck rest areas all over the emirate to avoid such inconveniences. Private-Seinding with the support of the RTA has developed 19 stations and rest areas since 2023, including more than 300000 sqm. These areas have diesel refueling, motels, maintenance workshop, restaurants and clinics to guarantee driver safety and comfort.

Increasing an Organisation’s Awareness and Guaranteeing Compliance

The director of operations in Dubai Police, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, stressed the need to educate trucks drivers and transportation companies on the changes to the rules. This will entail; informational campaigns, multilingual radio broadcasts and road signage in order to ensure that drivers change their time schedules and avoid-, penalties of a violation.

The traffic environment that is safer as well as more efficient.

Hussain Al Banna the CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency in RTA stressed that this scheme supports the Dubai’s plan in optimizing traffic congestion, decreasing travelling time and promote environmental conservation through cutting fuel utilization and pollution.
