Dubai’s Public Transport Usage Reaches 361 Million Riders in First Half of 2024

According to the RTA of Dubai, 361. 2 million clients used public transportation, shared mobility services, and taxis in the first half of 2024 and was up by six percent from the first half of the year 2023. This growth manifests the success of the RTA’s efforts in the marketing of public transport with daily users in a million and three hundred and ninety-eight thousand compared to a million eight hundred and eighty thousand recorded in the previous year.

The major means identified for usage in Dubai were the Dubai Metro and taxis who constituted 37% and 27% of the users respectively. Public buses provided means for 24. 5% of the passengers. The projected monthly users are highest in January, 2024 being 65 million users and lowest between 53 and 63 million users in other months of the year.

H. E. Mattar Al Tayer Director, General, and Chairman of the RTA, stated the importance of integrated transport system to the Dubai economy, and transport culture. Therefore, the Red and Green Lines of Dubai Metro yielded 133 million passengers in the first half of the year; BurJuman and Union are the two most populous stations. Public bus commuters stood at 89. 2 million users, marine at 9. 7 million users, e-hail vehicles and on demand buses stood at 27. 8 million users.

Al Tayer pointed out that RTA’s current strategies entails reaching the aspiration of making a 25 percent share of public transport in the total trips by the year 2030; proving Dubai’s vision of de-emphasizing the use of private cars and promoting more user friendly public transport.
