Dubai’s Taxi E-Hail Strategy Boosts Sustainability and Traffic Flow

Dubai’s taxis now use e-hailing technology to make transportation more efficient and green while ensuring better traffic control throughout the emirate. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) uses smart applications to book taxis ahead reducing roaming taxi traffic and lowering emission levels.

The adoption of the e-hail service led Dubai to achieve substantial growth and outstanding results.
The market share of Dubai’s e-hail taxi industry increased by 16% between 2023 and 2024 with Hala e-hailing platform taking over more of the market. Users showed growing preference for Hala service during peak hours because its market share increased from 42% to 50% between 2023 and 2024. By removing 7,600 vehicles from traffic daily this system reduces congestion in one of the world’s fastest developing cities.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, emphasized the strategic impact of e-hailing, stating: RTA has transformed Dubai’s taxi service industry through new modern technology which leads to better services and happier passengers.

The e-hailing system helps the transport agency save fuel while keeping trips direct and organized.
E-hail adoption has produced significant environmental savings of 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2024. The RTA optimizes taxi operations through 3km shorter driving distances per journey and reduce five minutes of extra driving periods on each trip.

Additional key highlights include:

Customer Satisfaction: In 2024 about three out of four e-booked rides were delivered to customers before hitting the 3.5-minute wait benchmark.
Driver Benefits: Drivers showed improved satisfaction because they reduced their daily travel time by 50 minutes while slashing their daily distance traveled by 4%.
Commitment to Sustainability
RTA makes Dubai’s sustainable future a reality by delivering taxi services that reduce environmental impact for all community members. These improvements show Dubai is an industry leader in intelligent transportation systems worldwide.
