E-Scooters Return to Dubai Metro with New Rules in Place

People in Dubai are set to start seeing e-scooters around the Dubai Metro again despite having been previously banned back in March. On October, 4th, 2024, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) released the information offering new easement; It is allowed to take some kinds of e-scooters inside the metro and tram carriages.

The restrictions have been put into that only e-scooters that are foldable, have no seat, and the dimensions of 120 cm * 70 cm * 40 cm with a weight not exceeding 20 kg may be taken aboard trains. These scooters may not be operated inside stations or block doors and aisles. The following are also some restrictions: It is prohibited to charge e-scooters at metro stations and to bring in wet or dirty scooters.

The RTA also stressed on such new rules in a tweet to enhance commuter convenience as well as save their lives. In addition to this, the RTA recently collaborated with Swiftly to improve the live bus arrival feature, providing passengers with a better chance at estimating their travel time.

With these new regulations, Dubai commuters have not only the benefit of using e-scooters as a flexible means of commuting while observing all the non-pharmaceutical measures to contain the pandemic.
