Emirates Inaugurates First Flight to Antananarivo, Strengthening UAE-Madagascar Ties

Emirates Airlines, the world’s largest international airline was recently privileged to unveil its first flight route to Antananarivo in the republic of Madagascar as it marked a new era of close relations between the United Arab Emirates and the republic of Madagascar. When the flight with the registration number EK707 touched down at the Ivato International Airport, it was welcomed by a water cannon salute and a official ceremony of the flight where many VIPS, government officials and other industry giants graced.

The event was professionally graced by His Excellency Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic of Madagascar, the First Lady welcoming the Emirates delegation that comprised of Adnan Kazim, Deputy President & CCO – EK. On the same note, the delegation consisted of high profiled personalities that included, Mohammad Lootah, President and the Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Major General Talal Ahmed Al Shangeti, General Director Assistant of Airport Passport Sector.

The new route is of high importance to the carrier’s expansion plan where the first flight was launched with a Boeing 777-300ER in a three-class configuration. It intends to enhance the bilateral cooperation between the two countries; Madagascar’s President, Mr Rajoelina stated his confidence in the belief that the new link will boost tourism as well as business in Madagascar. He said, ‘Madagascar gave Emirates the permission to fly over the country and, in so doing, Madagascar gave the world permission to fly over it’.

Emirates new service easy access will be four times weekly connecting Dubai with Mahe, Seychelles and Antananarivo. The flight schedule has been well-coordinated in a way which allows passengers to have connecting flights to major cities in Europe, the Far East, West Asia and the Middle East. The fact is that even majority of passengers across different classes can enjoy such services as regionally inspired catering service and a world class entertainment program within the flight.

They are the only airline that offers three classes of service to Madagascar and their entry to the market will greatly improve people’s travel options thus reflecting the Malagasy government’s desire to increase tourist arrivals to one million in 2028. This new route does not only give exposure to Madagascar in the global market, but it also gives tourists a chance to engage in discovering the island’s flora and fauna, historical sites, and colourful customs.
