The executive board of the Muslim Council of Elders organized a seminar about artificial intelligence (AI) ethics at the 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair titled “Ethics of Artificial Intelligence Usage.” Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher served as the facilitator for the session which took place in the Council’s pavilion. He holds the position of CEO at the Artificial Intelligence Journalism Foundation for Research and Forecasting (AIJRF).
Dr. Abdulzaher initiated the session by emphasizing the rapid necessity to develop ethical and legal rules for overseeing AI tools as well as their applications. According to him AI adoption speeds up quickly so he emphasized that we need to develop privacy protections and maintain proper usage in all sectors.
Dr. Abdulzaher made clear that ChatGPT and Gemini serve as common examples within the rapidly expanding AI field. Both data points indicate AI application numbers have surpassed 35,000 in 2018 while they reached 50,000 by 2024 and researchers forecast this number will double to one million by the end of 2025. He explained tools and applications in AI and singled out the necessity of regulation to avoid possible societal dangers during its planned growth.
During his remarks Dr. Abdulzaher instructed media experts to make AI-written material clear to readers and requested governmental regulation of both public and private AI use. He insisted that “AI must strengthen human abilities instead of pursuing human replacement.” AI creates no employment challenges because the only affected people are those who lack relevant skill advancement.
According to him AI applications are currently used in more than 50 million positions throughout the world. The expert declared that society needs to gain control over AI instead of letting it dominate human operations.
