To address the issue of social distance maintenance and enhancing the use of non-cash payments, the Transportation Authority in Ajman signed a memorandum of understanding with Visa concerning the installation of contactless payment in buses. This arrangement is in line with the smart mobility plan that Ajman has set and this is the first of its kind project in UAE.
The has given the bus users of Ajman the opportunity to pay for their rides through Visa contactless credit/debit cards or any salaried mobile device which supports contactless payment. Sami Ali Khamis AL Jallaf, the Executive Director of the Public Transport and Licensing Corporation at the Transport Authority – Ajman signed the agreement while Salima Gutieva, the Visa’s Vice President and Country Manager for UAE also signed it. Omar Mohammed Lootah, Director-General of the Ajman Transport Authority and Michael Berner, Head of Merchant Sales and Acquiring for Visa CEE ME & Africa signed the agreement.
Balancing the opportunities that the UAE has thought the process of its digitalization, Omar Mohammed Lootah pointed to the necessity to implement contactless payments while focusing, in particular, on the transport sector. He said, “The agreement will help the end use of digital payment in transportation in the Emirate of Ajman as a key point in the authority’s approaches of smart sustainable urban mobility, enhancing the customer experience and making it not only smooth, but exceptional. ”
Michael Berner said that he is looking forward to introducing Visa’s competence in contactless payments and mobility in Ajman. These words fr om him: “Having implemented over 700 projects in different countries, we look forward to introducing the experience in contactless payments and mobility in Ajman soon. With the help of more safe, fast and convenient life and transport payment solutions we would like to contribute to the development of the future of seamless travel in Ajman and the UAE. ”
The partnership between Ajman Transport and Visa is indeed a good leap towards providing better solutions in enhancing the public transport, which will be of great help in the realization of smart green mobility for the betterment of the society.
