DEWA Commissions New Water Reservoir in Enkhali, Enhancing Dubai’s Water Network

It would also be proper to take a look at the work that the DEWA accomplished as of now, particularly the commissioning of a new water reservoir in Enkhali to supply the residents of Dubai with fresh water. This huge reservoir with the capacity of 120 MIGs is capital intensive and its construction cost amounts to AED 287. 8 million. This corporate initiative is in consonance with the objectives of DEWA for improving the facilities for electricity and water supply, as well as an augmentation of water storage in Dubai.

“Water security is a national security issue for the UAE,” stated HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, “The UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 is designed to adequately supply Water during normal and emergency instances and effectively tackling future water security concerns for a long-term basis. ”

The 120 MIG Enkhali reservoir and others of Lusaily, Hassyan & Hatta underpin DEWA’s plan to enhance the efficacy & stability of water supply networks, increase water availability & augment water storage to address increasing demand in Dubai as well as the quantifiable sustainable development objectives. The aggregate storage, for all the reservoirs, will rise from the current 1001. 3 MIG from desalinated water to the proposed 1121. 3 MIG.

These new reservoirs, combined with Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project for desalinated water, of which the initial phase has already been implemented. After the expansions are completed by 2025 the ASR project is expected to be the largest ASR project worldwide and will store up to 6,000 million Imperial gallons of drinking water and then deliver it in emergencies.

DEWA’s Executive VP and W&C Abdullah Obaidullah also asserted that the Enkhali reservoir is one of the world-class projects of the company.
