Emirates Tackles Air Turbulence with Real-Time Data Integration

The following is a clear implication that Emirates has gone a notch higher to make sure that internationaflight safety and efficiency are secured by joining IATA’s Turbulence Aware Platform. This is to follow other Flight experiences that have in recent past witnessed very turbulent episodes on other different airlines hence the need for such measures.

Key Developments:

Real-Time Turbulence Data:

Emirates Airlines for instance has installed system on over 140 planes that relay pressure changes to the cockpit that would trigger turbulence.
This data is combined with Lido mPilot from LufthansaSystems to give pilots up-to-date and deterministic turbulence information and predictions.
This can be useful in cases where pilots can be able to choose better flight paths that do not include areas prone to turbulence.
Future Fleet Integration:

Some of the new aircraft that are joining Emirates’ fleet of Aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777-9, 777-8 and B787, will also be embedded with this technology.
Enhanced Safety and Efficiency:

Speaking to KAMP sampled at the enthrone event, Captain Hassan Alhammadi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Flight Operations Emirates Airline stated that the airline is fully committed to operational safety and the comfort of passengers.
It adds to the data collection for global significance helps to improve the knowledge of the industry and the ability to deal with turbulence more accurately.
IATA and Lufthansa Systems Collaboration:IATA and Lufthansa Systems Collaboration:

According to the data analyzed by Frenc Leger from the international air travel association, using live data is helpful in managing the impacts of turbulence.
And finally, Andreas Medlhammer from Lufthansa Systems noted that Emirates can reduce turbulence-related risks and achieve a better balance between the passenger’s comfort and efficiency by integrating Turbulence Aware data into Lido mPilot.
Global Impact:

Turbulence Aware by IATA consolidates anonymized turbulence data from thousands of flights, allowing pilots and dispatchers to find optimal routes and enhance efficiency while decreasing fuel consumption and, consequently, carbon emissions levels.
They now take full credit of contributing to have made over 700 million passengers fly safely across the globe.
Technology Integration:

Emirates specific Lido mPilot has the ability of presenting terminal charts, enroute maps created at the moment of the flight, and AMM.
It provides better control over situational awareness through maps that are data-driven and interactive, as well as features related to the latest weather occurrences relevant to each flight.
In this regard, the call for adopting these technologies, as well as partnering with IATA and the Lufthansa Systems, is in an effort to provide Emirates passengers with smoother and safer journeys while increasing operational effectiveness and therefore the overall customers’ satisfaction.
