MGM Resorts is set to introduce a sphere akin to Las Vegas in Dubai, a new frontier for entertainment in the Middle East. The idea of building the “Dubai Sphere” was based on the Las Vegas Sphere, which although is the same size at 110meter high the entertainment area only sits 300 people. However, there should be no doubt that the Dubai Sphere will be as impressive as the Sphere in Las Vegas, as Bill Hornbuckle, CEO of MGM Resorts, stated.
The Dubai Sphere is expected to be the focal point of a project known as “The Island” which is modeled from the infamous entertainment hub. This mega project is to host three primary components of MGM which are MGM, Bellagio, and Aria; the major duty of the hub will be to deliver luxury and entertainment.
While the Dubai Sphere is going to be different from the Sphere Entertainment which is the company behind the Las Vegas Sphere, it will have its own appeal. Among the planned shows, there will be a timeline exhibit that presents the evolution of the area that would later become Dubai from a deserted land to a modern wonder.
Based on LV – there are always speculations whether or not there are casinos in “The Island.” MGM Resorts has sought a casino license in Abu Dhabi but, to date, there are no casinos in Dubai. Hornbuckle teased that the area might be opened to gaming in the future or next year, but this is still under discussion.
The opening dates of both Dubai Sphere and The Island projects are still unknown, but both should open simultaneously to provide residents and guests with a brand new venue of luxury and entertainment.
