Sheikh Zayed Road Will Close this weekend

Sheikh Zayed Road, the main road of Dubai, is to be closed for two days in November. Drivers should remember this schedule. The first date is November 10, Sunday, which is an event for cyclists of all abilities organized by Dubai Fitness Challenge. The second closure date is Sunday, November 24, because of the Dubai Run, which sees pro and amateur runners race along the Tarmac.

Timing & Alternative Road:

Now you know the date of closure of Sheikh Zayed Road, you can use an alternate route from early morning. The Dubai Ride organizers describe to participants on their website that the roads need to re-open for traffic so all cyclists must finish their ride by 8.15 am. On Friday, November 8, the RTA revealed that selected roads remain closed for Dubai Ride between 3.30 am and 110 am The RTA authority suggests using Al Mustaqbal Road, Al Wasl Road, and Al Khail Road instead of Sheikh Zayed Road. Remember that:

  • Part of Sheikh Zayed Road between the Trade Centre Roundabout and the second bridge
  • Lower Financial Centre Road between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road
  • One-way from Sheikh Zayed road

To continue the ‘Dubai Run’, you may have to wait a little bit longer for the road to reopen with the last runners finishing off from the starting line at 8 am for the 5km route or 7.30 am for the 10km route. Dubai Metro will continue to run, so you can use it and all other forms of public transport.

The Dubai Ride and Dubai Run Route Details:

The Dubai Run and Dubai Ride are a once-a-year competition along Sheikh Zayed Road. The Dubai run begins on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Museum of the Future, passes the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Opera, and ends near Dubai Mall, whose total distance is 5 km. A longer run of 10km route also starts near the Museum of the Future, crosses Dubai Canal Bridge, loops along Sheikh Zayed Road, and finishes near DIFC Gate. Lower Financial Centre Street and the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard Road remained closed last year.

And Dubai Ride, there is the choice of a 4km family-friendly route through Downtown Dubai. Another one is a 12 km ride along Sheikh Zayed Road with starting points at the Museum of The Future, Al Satwa, Coca-Cola Arena, Business Bay, and Lower Financial Street.
