Ramadan which is one of the holiest of months for Muslims all over the world is to begin in two and half months time. UAE astronomer Dr Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society explained that Ramadan 2025 will start on Saturday, 1 March 2025.
Al Jarwan said that the crescent marking the beginning of the fast and prayer of Ramadan will be ‘born’ on the Friday 28th Feb 2025.
Countdown to Ramadan
Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar and the current Islamic month of Jumada Al Thani which started on December 1, 2024 create the backdrop for the coming Islamic months of Rajab and Sha’ban. Ramadan, the ninth in the Islamic lunar calendar will then occur as a month of worship, fasting and assembly.
Significance of Ramadan
Throughout Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink anything in the day for which they are wake and this is done is as a sign of surrender and obedience. This applies to food and drink and all the needs of the body which teach moderation, compassion, and holiness. Fasting period lasts for 29 or 30 days basing with lunar sighting.
Weather Brought by Winter Observance
The result will be the second time in 24 years that Ramadan will be in the winter months which are preferable to many of the observers in the UAE and other areas because fasting is easier in cool temperature and the fasts are shorter.
Impact on Work Schedules
Ramadan again will see changes in the working hours in the UAE both in public and private establishments to enable people of working calendar to perform their duties while they fasting during the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan in Ramadan 2025 is only be 90 days away, signalling the beginning of the fasting period. Muslims in the UAE and in the rest of the world are already anticipating for a lit month of fasting special acts of charity.
