Shakhboot bin Nahyan Advocates for Peace in Sudan at Djibouti Mediators Meeting

SHEIKH SHAKHBOUT BIN NAHYAN AL ABED RASHED AL MOUZAN, UAE Minister of State, Meet the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan Held in Djibouti. The meeting involved delegations from 32 countries and other civil and international organizations with the main cause of seeking to restore international peace in Sudan.

Delivering the opening speech, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan also stressed the role of international community in the human rights situation in Sudan as addressing the violence, humanitarian help is needed within the shortest possible time. He urged for the increased cooperation between the countries from the region and other global actors in the search for ideal strategies that Sudan needs to overcome current challenges.

Sheikh Shakhboot elaborated on the situation in Sudan and informed the participants of the continually aggravating humanitarian catastrophe which is threatened by famine that directly endangering the lives of civilians. Thus, he called for the escalation of diplomatic and humanitarian actions to address conflict and its implications for refugees.

The UAE Minister of State also explained measures being taken by the UAE to help reduce humanitarian crisis in Sudan and other neighboring countries. Since the conflict started in April 2023 the UAE has in kind and cash contribution to the affected amounted to US$245 million. Furthermore, in the same year, the UAE provided two field hospitals for displaced Sudanese in Republic of Chad as a way of minimizing on the effects of the refugee problem.

The UAE position on the Sudan crisis was likewise underlined by Sheikh Shakhboot wherein he expressed the country’s support to all efforts sought to ease the tensions and find the solution to the conflict. Younis also emphasized on the need for a consensus among the Sudanese counterpart and the need to achieve tangible result in the political track.

He ended by cautiously affirming the UAE’s unequivocal position that ceasefire can only be an urgent necessity and that there is no military solution to the war. He urged on the process of dialogue as the main tool for the contenders in order to bring the conflict to its amicable end.
