Sharjah Learning Disabilities Conference Launches Fourth Edition

Sharjah Centre for Learning Disabilities (SCLD) has kicked off its fourth Learning Disabilities Conference on Saturday under the slogan: Shared Challenges/ Innovative Solutions. Convened at the Sharjah Education Academy, the two days’ event is organised by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and in the presence of Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Head of Sharjah Districts Affairs Department (SDAD).

The conference spotlights four key areas: It is a form of assessment and diagnosis, scientific and technological research, support and empowerments, and educational interventional. More than 20 scientific publications and 4 workshops are dedicated to the innovative approaches to early identification and learning disability support presented by world professionals. One of the areas is increasing the competitiveness of teacher training programs and sharing of best practice to increase services to students with learning disabilities.

Organized in cooperation with the Sharjah Education Academyand Princess Tharwat College in Jordan, the conference is also fully backed by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the golden sponsor and the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority as the media sponsor. More silver sponsorship includes Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Centro Sharjah Hotel and Airlines: Air Arabia.

Mr. Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi, the Director of SCLD, stressed the importance of the event, including the most relevant topics for now, including the integration of technology in special education and the latest diagnostic and support tools. She observed that there is keen collaboration at the local and international level to introduce new systems that can support people with learning disability.

The event also saw the signing of a ground-breaking Memorandum of Understanding between the Sharjah Centre for Learning Disabilities and an Egyptian research team headed by Dr.Samira Bakr to implement an intelligent diagnostic test for children at-risk for learning disabilities.
