Abu Dhabi showed great respect and made historic announcements when former US President Donald Trump visited on Thursday, including a pledge by the UAE to invest $1.4 trillion in the United States during the next ten years. The visit helps strengthen the cooperation between the UAE and the United States in areas such as the economy, technology, and diplomacy.
Upon his arrival at Qasr Al Watan, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, hosted a ceremonial welcome for Trump. The meeting saw the signing of important agreements, such as the launch of a new AI initiative and an agreement on cooperating on deals worth up to $200 billion, according to the White House.
One of the main events of the visit was opening the 5GW UAE–US AI campus in Abu Dhabi, which demonstrates the countries’ advances in critical technologies. His visit also included meeting Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, which hinted at his deep interest in AI, followed by a possible annual purchase of up to 500,000 high-end Nvidia AI chips by the UAE.
As a mark of appreciation for his work on UAE-US relations, Trump received the Order of Zayed, the country’s top civilian award.
An agreement between Boeing, GE Aerospace, and Etihad Airways to invest $14.5 billion will build on the economic and strategical partnership of both countries.
The president showed happiness for the AI projects and said he wants to receive Sheikh Mohamed to the White House in the near future. President Biden praised the UAE’s part in contributing to peace and economic progress in the region.
The Burj Khalifa was lit up in the US flag’s colors and displayed a message saying “UAE welcomes US President,” expressing the developing relationship between the two countries.
He is likely to leave the UAE on Friday and might stop at Istanbul on his way back to America.
