The brief history of fuel prices in the UAE
The UAE floated the fuel price in August 2015 leaving behind the previous government subsidies under which the people did not feel the actual price of petrol in the global market. The perception change facilitates the setting of domestic fuel prices based on the prevailing international market rates.
The new prices came into effect on Monday with motorists in the UAE being able to expect some relief on their fuel bills when they fill up their tanks in December while the slight hike in diesel prices should not have a very material impact to transportation costs.
