UAE authorities have asked the employees of the government offices to observe one day paid holiday on the occasion of Islamic New Year. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources stated that Monday this year will be Muharram 1 on the Islamic lunar calendar, expected to be July 7, a day off from work depending on moon sighting.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) followed suit on Tuesday and said the private sector will also get July 7 off.
This is the holiday for the beginning of the Islamic New Year; meanwhile, the following are the public holidays in the UAE for 2024. Later in the year residents can also expect to have a holiday in honor of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Further, the last public holiday of the year will be National Day meaning the nation will be set for a long weekend.
Others nations in the same region like Oman have followed suit and declared July 7 a public and a bank holiday and this implies an extra day off for most people.
The UAE’s public holidays are occasioned with other thirty days leave that is enjoyed by the employees annually.
