Google News faced a major outage yesturday that affected the services of users around the world both on web and app level. The affected users complained on Downdetector and on social media informing people that no stories were showing on the site.

Users instead of getting their regular Facebook news feed were welcomed by an upside-down ice cream cone picture, and the message ‘Uh-oh, something went wrong. Please try again. ’ This problem was verified by the staff members of TechRadar, both in the USA as well as in Italy. Limud on Downdetector rose sharply at around 8 AM ET on May 31, 2024, with reports on the outage.

Despite the widespread disruption, Google’s Cloud status page did not indicate any issues, though the Search Status Dashboard reflected a “service interruption” affecting certain search features as of 9:2 47 AM ET.

The reason for the Google News outage goes unknown and cannot explain whether it is connected with the found search service problem. Google has responded to the issue and is currently coming up with ways on how the problem can be solved. TechRadar has sought to know more detail from Google and shall update you once in possession of the details.

For most users, Google News service was restored by approximately 9:50, AM Eastern Time on the 31 st May, 2024. Thus, both the desktop and mobile platforms got restored to their normal state in terms of reflected news feed and categories. Google’s Search Status Dashboard later confirmed that the issue with serving specific search features was resolved, with all systems operational by 11:29 AM ET All the products presented at the exhibition represented the best examples of the companies’ production, that actively participated in its preparation.

The temporary nature of the problem exemplifies that even the most reliable online services might face some issues although Google’s prompt actions enabled me to mitigate the problem’s impact. Currently, Google News seems to be operating without any problems, however, users can retrieve their feed transparently.
