Robinson accepted change in her life as she became a first lady and her change of residence from the clover to White House was a big one, though she never lost her humility. Having no desire to meet with dignitaries and preferring to be alone than spend time partying she was a very private person. This aspect made her avoid looking for attention and instead focus on her duties making her a great of the Obama household.

Even during her time working in the White House for president Obama as a senior advisor, David Axelrod described how Robinson would sneak away from work to meet her friends, for Robinson did not like the publicity she was getting due to her status. The only celebrity that she asked to meet was Pope and this clearly showed some level of humility and pragmatism.

Michelle Obama recently revealed in one of her interviews that just weeks before she passed on, she had announced her plan to have the Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago dedicated exhibit to her mother. In a video statement, which was created by Mrs. Obama, she underlined that Robinson played an important role in her life, as she helped her become more confident and self-sufficient.
