Today she passed on,” Mrs. Obama said this.

Obama also spoke in honor of the fallen icon, stating the burning effect Robinson left on them. “In the sadness there is only one of Marian Robinson – and there will be only one. Her life is an extraordinary gift that fills us with love and lifts us up; the rest of our lives will be spent trying to grow into what she embodies,” he wrote.

Life and Legacy

Robinson was born in 1937 in chicago; he was one among the seven children of his parents. She continued to remain a teacher, and later in her working life, she took up secretarial work. She embarked on the motherhood and housewivery together with her spouse, Frasier Robinson with two children Michelle and Craig on the South Side of Chicago. It’s common knowledge that Robinson was a person with a stern personality and basically assumed the role of a pillar of strength for the Obama family.

A picture of early that night seen her sitting beside Barrack Obama which was an indication of her value in the family’s struggle. However, deep down to her wealth, Robinson remained simple and polite, especially going to her friends’ place, and still wash her clothes on her own.

White House Life

Robinson accepted change in her life as she became a first lady and her change of residence from the clover to White House was a big one, though she never lost her humility. Having no desire to meet with dignitaries and preferring to be alone than spend time partying she was a very private person. This aspect made her avoid looking for attention and instead focus on her duties making her a great of the Obama household.

Even during her time working in the White House for president Obama as a senior advisor, David Axelrod described how Robinson would sneak away from work to meet her friends, for Robinson did not like the publicity she was getting due to her status. The only celebrity that she asked to meet was Pope and this clearly showed some level of humility and pragmatism.

A Legacy Honored

Michelle Obama recently revealed in one of her interviews that just weeks before she passed on, she had announced her plan to have the Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago dedicated exhibit to her mother. In a video statement, which was created by Mrs. Obama, she underlined that Robinson played an important role in her life, as she helped her become more confident and self-sufficient. In tears she noted: “I just wouldn’t be the person I am today had it not been for my mom”.

Marian Robinson played a very pivotal role in the family and the society, and her characteristic features of quiet strength and support portrayed a great influence on the society especially to her family. These achievements will remain in the annals of history and people will always remember her as a pioneer, a hero, a legend in her own right.
