Dubai has further cemented its position as a global aviation hub with the launch of the all-new Emirates Flight Crew Training Centre, a state-of-the-art facility designed to train pilots on the airline’s future fleet, including the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X.

Covering more than 63,000 square feet, the training centre features six full-flight simulator bays and is strategically located near other Emirates training facilities in Dubai. This addition forms part of the airline’s wider growth strategy as it prepares for the arrival of its next-generation aircraft.

A landmark investment in aviation training

The centre represents a AED500 million investment in aviation innovation. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, described the centre as a “gamechanger,” highlighting its role in shaping the airline’s pilot training programmes and reinforcing Dubai’s standing in the global aviation ecosystem.

Two Airbus A350 full-flight simulators are already in operation, with four more, including Boeing 777X simulators, scheduled to arrive within the next two years. Each simulator has the capacity to provide 7,500 training hours per year for up to 1,000 pilots. Once fully operational, Emirates will operate 17 simulators across its training network, including those for A380s and Boeing 777s. This expansion boosts training capacity by 54 per cent, allowing the airline to deliver 130,000 pilot training hours annually.

Cutting-edge technology and innovation

The simulators are integrated with Emirates’ Pilot Support Station (PSS), a system that enables pilots to preconfigure flight decks and design flight plans before entering simulator sessions. This preparation ensures that time in the simulator is focused entirely on learning. Sessions are also recorded, allowing instructors to replay and analyse performance for more effective feedback.

Adding to its innovation, the centre operates 3D printing facilities to manufacture components for training equipment. This in-house capability not only enhances flexibility but also saves the airline approximately AED1 million per year.

Global recognition and standards

Emirates’ first A350 simulator has already received Level D qualification—the highest standard awarded—by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Notably, it is the first simulator worldwide certified at Airbus A350 Standard 1.3 with zero findings, reflecting the precision and quality of the training systems.

The training centre also houses four classrooms to deliver recurrent training, conversion courses, and command training for pilots under the guidance of expert instructors.

Building the future pilot workforce

Beyond this new centre, Emirates operates a suite of training institutions in Dubai, including the Emirates Flight Training Academy, Emirates Aviation University, Emirates Cabin Crew Training Centre, and Emirates Aviation College. Together, these facilities support the development of aviation professionals across the sector.

Currently, Emirates is actively recruiting pilots for three programmes: Direct Entry Captains, Accelerated Command, and First Officers non-type rated. With the airline operating the world’s largest fleets of A380s and Boeing 777s, and preparing to welcome the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X, this expansion in training ensures the carrier is future-ready.

The opening of the Emirates Flight Crew Training Centre not only strengthens the airline’s operational excellence but also underscores Dubai’s commitment to being a world leader in aviation and innovation.
