On a Mission to Lead in AI, Qatar Partners with Microsoft to Expand Cloud Data Centres

Early this year in 2022, Microsoft set a broad data center in Qatar, that is significant to the Qatar AI agenda, or the country’s goal to advance AI within the gulf area. Currently, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) unveiled massive investment in Qatar cloud data Centre region with Microsoft.

It has helped various 43 government and semi-government organizations to implement data analytics and AI services by using Microsoft’s Azure Cloud services. Sami Al Shammari, the Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT for this venture with the software giant Microsoft.

He said that the further extension of cloud data centre region in the country was the testimony of the ministry’s unrelenting policy towards providing all the governmental institutions with modern technologies starting with new Artificial Intelligence, for instance.

Microsoft Azure consumption has increased exponentially because of Microsoft’s investment in Artificial Intelligence and the collaboration it has with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. Specifically for the last three years 1393 people was trained in AI techniques with 143 government and semi-government organizations migrated to Azure cloud.

The Microsoft cloud data centre region in the country of Qatar which commenced in 2022 is among a system of more than 60 such regions all over the world. in parallel with the MCIT, Microsoft has initiated the National Skilling Program targeting to educate half a lakh population in digital expertise in the next 4 years in Qatar highlighting the intentions of the country for empowering technology enabled human capital.
