The Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) has presented 46 contenders, from 12 different nations for the 2024 Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA). This year’s conference of SGCA is a bit special as it received the largest number of submissions ever, which is 3,815, that is three times more than last year. The 11th edition of the award Another interesting fact, The 2014 award attracted 1129 entries from 44 countries and this goes to show the increasing reach and importance of the award.

Its further divided into 5 major categories and the contenders will be vying for 22 awards in total. These include nine awards for government entities, international organisations and the private sector; four individual awards; two challenge and competition awards; four Jury Awards; and three Partner Awards. The selections were made by the SGCA Higher Committee, which consists of media and communication specialists and looked through all the entries carefully. The results will be declared during the award distribution ceremony which will take place at Expo Centre Sharjah on September 5.

The candidates of this year’s shortlist hail from United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Nigeria, Singapore, Australia and United Kingdom. The submitted projects were outstanding in quality and uniqueness and specific recognition was given to the private sector in communication practices.

More than many countries have entered this award for the first time proving that it is an award open to the international world. On its foundation it has set high tones for itself being an organizational body that honours the best and the most creative in government communication. This award still challenges shifts and improvements in the area where it focuses on while ensuring the sustainability of the society by using communication techniques.

This edition consolidates even further SGCA’s role in promoting international cooperation and establishing new best practices in government communication.
