The AI Dilemma: Balancing Innovation and Authenticity in Hollywood

Therefore, it would be worthwhile to try to disentangle all pros and cons of AI when it comes to Hollywood. With the advancement in technologies, AI has slowly and gradually started to invade the entertainment industry especially in the areas such as writing scripts and dialogues, some part of production and even in post-production editing along with voice translation. Nonetheless, the inclusion of AI in Hollywood is a promising and worrying affair at the same time.

On the one hand, AI is incredibly efficient on the other hand it is Incredibly Efficient. Indeed, as Sandy Climan stressed, AI technology can save time during filming as one does not have to try multiple takes and experiments to achieve the needed result, and let actors improve their skills. Further, AI can also interpret actors’ voices to other languages, in a way that gives true multinational appeal to distribution. Such advancements have the potential to bring more efficiency in creation of films and perhaps change the methods of film making.

However, there are great concerns of adopting AI as well. It should, however, be noted that a major concern for many in the industry and movie-goers is the effect that AI is likely to bring to the craft of filmmaking. The action of AI scriptwriting or using AI to write in the style of the authors who are no longer alive can be interpreted as the degradation in the humanities, the-human touch. There is also concern that AI spells job loss especially for writers, editors and other creative professionals that are involved in making of films. This anxiety is well demonstrated by the writers’ continuous strike, where most fight for the retention of human work on storytelling.

In addition, other issues arise such as the ethical questions for artificial intelligence where deepfakes and the use of actors’ digital avatars raises moral quandaries. Due to AI’s speech mimic ability or the improvement of generating lifelike simulations, fakes, imposters or impersonators, issues of consent, and ownership of one’s image are problematic.

Therefore, although AI has a lot of potential when it comes to innovation in Hollywood, it comes with issues that must be contemplated on. It will be interesting to see how the cinema industry will adapt it in future avoiding on one hand the overuse of AI and considering on the other hand the human soul of cinematography. The conversation of AI is still ongoing and so the controversies that pertain AI in Hollywood will also continue to grow as they change Hollywood in ways that have not been fully seen yet.
