The United Arab Emirates announced it will host the UAE AI Summit 2028, reinforcing its position as a worldwide technology hub and a leading voice in international AI governance. Before taking on that hosting role, the UAE will co-chair the 2027 edition alongside the Swiss Confederation in Geneva — back-to-back commitments that mark a significant expansion of the country's multilateral influence over artificial intelligence policy.
The announcements were made during the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, which ran from February 16 to 20.
UAE Expands Leadership in Global AI Governance
The dual appointment reflects the UAE's sustained commitment to building international cooperation around advanced technology. The nation has consistently positioned itself not merely as a consumer of AI innovation but as an architect of the frameworks governing it.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated: "The country believes shaping the future of artificial intelligence requires integrating diverse global perspectives."
He emphasised that the UAE's approach centres on international dialogue involving governments, organisations, and decision-makers, guided by President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
What the UAE AI Summit 2028 Means
The 2028 summit will position the UAE as the primary venue for global discussion on responsible, ethical, and equitable AI advancement. Officials noted that the country's involvement across consecutive summit editions reflects growing international confidence in its governance model — one that combines rapid innovation with accountable regulatory structures.
The UAE intends to use both leadership roles to advance AI technologies that support sustainable development, knowledge distribution, and skills-building, with a particular focus on benefits for emerging nations.
UAE and Switzerland Co-Chair the 2027 Edition in Geneva
The 2027 co-chairmanship with Switzerland in Geneva underlines the value both nations place on creative governance, universal regulatory frameworks, and dependable AI systems. The partnership aims to develop flexible technology governance built on transparency, accountability, and alignment with societal values and global norms.
The AI Impact Summit as a Global Policy Forum
The Artificial Intelligence Summit serves as a premier worldwide forum bringing together political leaders, technology experts, innovators, and international organisations. Its focus areas include sharing best practices, establishing workable guidelines, and forging global partnerships to enable responsible AI adoption while encouraging inclusive economic growth and modernisation.
The AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi concluded with 89 countries and international organisations — including the United States and China — signing the New Delhi Declaration, which calls for equitable sharing of AI's benefits across all nations.
