UAE visas and Emirates ID
Last verified 2026-08-18
- Who handles it
Dubai residence and visit services are handled by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). Other emirates use the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).
- Do you need a visa?
GCC citizens do not need a visa to enter the UAE. Other nationalities may get visa-free entry, visa on arrival, or need to apply in advance. Official lists change. Check the UAE government page and the UAE embassy in your country before travel.
- Passport
Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into the UAE.
- Emirates ID
Emirates ID is the government identity card for UAE citizens and residents. It is mandatory. Cancellation of a residence visa cancels the Emirates ID with it.
- Does not
This page is not immigration advice and does not decide anyone’s case. Fees, eligible nationalities and Golden Visa categories change. Confirm on the official portal for your emirate before you travel or apply.
Visa types on u.ae
These are the types the official government portal lists. Eligibility and length sit on those pages, not here.

- Tourist visa

- Golden visa
Long-term residence for people who meet official categories. Check eligibility on ICP. Do not treat a news recap as the current list.
