From August 17, 2024, Dubai Metro commuters using ticket vending machines on the Metro to top up their nol cards will have to load a minimum of fifty US dollars, or its equivalent in AED. The new rule has been instituted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) as a way of achieving certain operational objectives and increasing patrons’ use of card payments. Low-cost carrier flydubai has commenced operations to Basel, the first UAE airline to so do. The airline is also to venture into the Baltic with direct services to Riga, Latvia starting October 11 and to Tallinn, Estonia the following day.
